We often don’t really think about the foods that we consume, nor their nutritious value. Often people feel tired and sleepy after having a meal. That’s because they upset the system which prepares to digest the food.
This is how fermented food comes into play. It’s different because not only is it good for you, but it leaves you refreshed and satisfied after you’re done also. Therefore, this is why it’s a good idea to start incorporating fermented foods into your diet.
Sauerkraut, or fermented cabbage, is fermented cabbage cut into tiny pieces. It has the reputation of a healthy treat with a very long shelf life. People recognize it by its sour flavor, which has people coming back to it thanks to its delicious flavor.
There are so many ingredients on how to prepare meals with fermented cabbage, and today we have one for you. Enjoy a delicious meal filled with loads of good bacteria that break down starches, sugars, and lactose.
But before we jump straight to the recipe, here are some of the incredible benefits this dish has.
Health Benefits of Sauerkraut
1. Improves Digestion
The good bacteria that are actually good for our system are called probiotics. The Sauerkraut is filled with microorganisms that supply the probiotics in the gut. This makes the process of digestion a lot more effective, and it allows the probiotics to improve your health immensely.
This is why using fermented food like sauerkraut is very good for your health because it’s able to grab all of the nutrients from all of the food that you eat.
2. Strengthens Immune System
Using fermented foods in your diet can be very beneficial for your immune system. Probiotics can help your system’s immune cells not develop autoimmune diseases. Another good thing probiotics are useful for is for when you have inflammation.
They have an effect towards them that helps the system fight them off.
3. Reduces Inflammation
The definition for autoimmune in medicine stands for “the body attacking itself”. This is the main culprit that triggers inflammation. The body basically tricks itself into sending alarms that the body is being attacked by something on the outside. This is when the self-attacks occur.
Probiotics are capable of controlling the natural killer cells. They are important because they control inflammation. Thanks to this, probiotics are capable of preventing most diseases, even cancer.
4. Beneficial for Weight Loss or Maintenance
Since probiotics influence the gut’s health and regulate its work, they’re also able to help you out with controlling your appetite.
At the beginning of the post, we mention that eating food that’s not really good for you is going to leave you tired and sleepy and that probiotics can help you out with being satisfied and full throughout the day.
5. Improved Mood
Sauerkraut is rich in probiotics that can help certain brain chemicals work with digestive enzymes. Therefore the end result being food that’s digested a lot faster.
In order for the brain to produce the hormones responsible for our moods, like dopamine or serotonin, it needs good food that has the much-needed vitamins and minerals to do so.
Thankfully, sauerkraut is packing the necessary nutrients to help the brain outdo this too, thus making it a very healthy, effective meal.
6. Helps Fight Cancer
Cabbage already has the reputation of being a vegetable very high in antioxidants. When it’s fermented, it’s a double threat. Even though most Sauerkraut is made off-white and green cabbage, there are cases where people use the purple one.
The purple cabbage has a special list of other antioxidants that are unique to the purple cabbage only.
Since the mix has antioxidants and probiotics that are capable of protecting the entire body, it’s good to use it to prevent cancer too.
