Alert: Popular Cheese Recalled Due to Possible Contamination

Have you ever thought that something in your fridge could hurt you? Think again! It appears that Sargento Foods Inc. has recently issued a major recall of as many as seven of its cheeses. But what’s the reason? Apparently due to potential contamination from a type of pathogenic bacteria called listeria monocytogenes.

The good news is that the company has reported no illnesses as of yet. But that’s no sign to relax.

More About Listeriosis?

This serious infection is brought about by a consumption of food already contaminated with this bacterium. According to statistics, around 1,600 people get this infection each year, and around 260 people die from it.

Due to the serious consequences, such an infection should be avoided at all costs. Pregnant women, newborns, adults older than 65, and people with low immune systems should be especially cautious. It is a serious issue that can lead to many health problems.

As an extra precaution, Sargento Foods Inc. has promised to continue closely observing and collecting information from their supplier, located in Middlebury, Indiana.

Said supplier had allegedly informed Sargento Food Inc. that a specialty by the name of Longhorn Colby cheese it had supplied had possibly been contaminated. So, there was nothing left to do but have it recalled.

However, this little predicament doesn’t stop the company from providing recompenses and replying to their customers. You, in case you have also purchased cheese, you can either dial up 1-800-CHEESES or contact the company through e-mail through their website’s contact page.

But it’s time to satiate your curiosity on the recalled products. Here is a list of these Sargento products to look out for:
